I think i am totally with Savior_hoa.
Go have a good talk with him,but dont show your cards too soon.
Nobody is useless,since he likes u so much,you could give him a chance to have a dinner or grab a movie with you.He will be thrilled,then at the middle of nowhere,you tell him how you feel and hope to maintain the relationship he and you already have ,besides,you've already in love with somebody else,u just dont think of him in that way.you hope he could be gentle enough to figure that out and just be friend.

i think you should speak to him directly, to get away from him is not the way to solve the problem,so invite him to have a dinner with him and say to him that you always treat him like a friend and being friends is a good thing for both of you.
