恕本人孤陋寡闻,只见过in detail,没有见过in details.
例子：
We haven't discussed the matter in detail yet.（我们还没有详细地讨论那件事情.）
The book described her sufferings in graphic detail.（那本书以图表的形式详细地描述她的苦难.）
He talked in great detail about the curtains he's chosen for his lounge.（他很详细地谈到他为自己的起居室选择的窗帘.）
类似的还有,at (great) length,in (great) surprise 等,其中的名词都不需要复数形式.

Hi here，when you discuss something "in detail", you discuss it thoroughly. You discuss the details.
"The details are..."
"I'll give you the details"
These examples are both correct.
However, "I'll give you the details."
When detail is used in the singular and with the definite article, it can have other meanings, two of which I'll illustrate here:
"The detail he got into was incredible". Here it refers to the level/ amount of detail/s provided.
"The detail" could also refer to a specific one of many details involved.
An expression comes to mind, "God is in the details".
