植树节的由来
世界上有植树节,首始美国.起初只是在内布拉斯加州,后很快风行全美,其他许多国家纷纷仿效.我国植树节,始于民国四年(1915年),当时农商部规定在清明日.
由于各地气温殊异,四月五日左右的清明节,北方较寒,尚可植树；而南方已草木萌动,树木一经移栽,有碍生长,故须另择日期.民国十七年(1928年),当时的国民政府中有人提议,孙中山先生是领导推翻几千年封建王朝,创立民国的伟大元勋,功悬日月,名垂千古,以他的逝世纪念日三月十二日为植树节,无论意义与时令均甚合宜.这一提议遂获得通过.并确定兰花为首都市花.
1930年3月12日,这一天在南京的国民政府要员齐集南京东郊中山陵,参加第一次“国父逝世纪念植树仪式”,以后亦每年举行.但由于当时政府倡而不力,始终未能推广开来.
解放后,由于人民政府大力提倡,绿化造林取得了很大成绩.1979年,中华人民共和国全国人民代表大会常务委员会更进一步确定,将3月12日定为全民植树节.现在每到这一天,上至中央,下至地方,党政军民,工农商学,纷纷出动植树造林,绿化祖国,形成了既轰轰烈烈,又扎扎实实的群众自觉活动.全国许多城市还选了市树、市花.南京选雪松为市树、梅花为市花.3月12日植树节,已深入人心.
